The eight Canary Islands airports received 3,560,704 passengers during the month of February 2018, which represents an increase of 6.1% compared to February 2017, according to Aena data published on Monday. Of the total number of commercial passengers, 2,395,590 correspond to international traffic, remaining the same as the same month last year, and 1,109,617 to national, with an increase of 22%.
They are followed by Lanzarote Airport with 547,211 (+ 2.7%); Fuerteventura with 476,887 (+ 8.5%); Tenerife North with 359.285 (+ 21.1%); La Palma with 104,754 (+ 3.6%); El Hierro with 15,856 and the highest percentage increase, 42.5% more, and La Gomera with 2,531 passengers, 8.6% more.
Regarding the number of operations, the Canarian airports registered 31,783, 9.9% more. Of the total, 14,689 were international (-3.7%) and 15,729 national (+ 26.2%). Merchandise traffic was more than 2,980 tons transported, 0.4% more than in February 2017.
So far this year, the number of passengers registered at the Canarian airports amounted to 7,253,410, 5.9% more than in the same period of 2017. Of the total commercial passengers (7,153,894), 4,871,664 corresponded to international flights, 0.1% more, and 2,282,230 passengers, 21.5% more.
The number of operations registered during this period was 66,117 (+ 9.4%) and the traffic of transported goods amounted to 6,098 tons (+ 3.4%).
